Undo Residency Award

Undo Foundation is offering a residency at the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany in 2008/09. The residency is for a period of 12 months.  The Undo Residency Award has been established by Undo Foundation to promote Cypriot contemporary art and to recognize and support exceptional Cypriot artists who live in Cyprus or abroad.

Terms and Conditions

The award is open to applicants who will be 39 years old or younger during the period August 2008 to September 2009.
Applicants must have exhibited in a public or commercial gallery during the last 18 months. Evidence of commitment to the applicant's individual artistic practice is required. Acknowledged recognition from peers, critics, curators ( in the form of published articles and / or reference letters) should also be produced and submitted.

The successful applicant will be offered a studio for 12 months and an exhibition will be staged at the end of the 12 months. The work will be also be documented in the BE magazine. In addition to the residency an amount of 4500 euros will offered towards living expenses.

The selected artist will on his or her behalf enter into an agreement which will commit him or her amongst others: 

1 to present in Cyprus, in a form of an exhibition organized by UNDO, the work created during the year of residency.

2. To offer in a form of a gift, one of the works completed during this period.  Undo Foundation will select the work as part of its contemporary collection.

3. To collaborate with Undo Publications to help extend its activities and broaden its contacts with contemporary artists, theorists and curators.

The residency covers a period of 12 months. Dates of residency will be fixed by mutual agreement between the successful candidate, Undo Foundation and Kunstlerhaus Bethanien.

Kunstlerhaus Bethanien

The Kunstlerhaus Bethanien is a major artist's residency and project workshop for the promotion of contemporary art and international exchange. It was established in 1975 and is now a leading model for similar institutions internationally.  Further information can be found on www.bethanien.de

Selection Process

The board of Undo Foundation together with Kunstlerhaus Bethanien will select one artist out of all valid and complete applications submitted to the Undo Foundation.

Making an Application

The nominees can down load the application form from this web site. Completed forms can be sent either electronically or by post (see contact details below). Any further material deemed by the candidate as important (catalogues, press articles etc.) must also be submitted. Undo Foundation is not responsible for damage or corruption to material sent either electronically or by post. Undo Foundation will not return the material sent to it.

For an application to be considered completed it must include all of the followings:

Completed and signed application form
Curriculum vitae of candidate
200 word artist's statement regarding the artist's practice
A description of the project the artist will be working on during the residency.
A maximum of 30 digital-format images of the candidate's most recent work (i.e. on CD, DVD, Mini DVD) .

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
